Chevening is the UK government’s international awards scheme aimed at developing global leaders. It is funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. Chevening scholarships are targeted at exceptional scholars from all over the world who have leadership potential and wish to study postgraduate courses at universities in the UK. It provides full or part funding for full-time one-year Master’s degree, in any subject at any UK university. About 1500 scholarships are awarded periodically.

The scholarships are given to postgraduate students across all fields including biological sciences, social sciences, humanities, commercial, engineering, arts, etc. Visit the website of the institution you wish to attend to learn about the programs offered by the university.
While the benefits included in the scholarship may vary from country to country, it usually covers tuition fees; monthly allowances, additional grants and allowances for essential expenditure and an economy class return airfare to and from the UK. The monthly stipend will depend on whether you are studying inside or outside London. It is currently £917 per month outside London and £1134 per month inside London (subject to annual review).
To be considered for the award, candidates must:
- be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country.
- Have the undergraduate degree required for admission to a post-graduate programme at a UK university.
- meet the Chevening English language requirement
- have a minimum of two years’ work experience
- have received an unconditional offer from a UK university by a deadline, usually in June

Aspiring candidates must submit an application on the Chevening online application system which can be accessed by clicking on the ‘apply’ button on the candidates’ home country page.
