Gates Cambridge Scholarships are awarded to outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. The Gates Cambridge Scholarships are one of the most prestigious international scholarships in the world.
A total of about 95 awards are available for students from the developing countries as well as developed countries. The scholarship is available for study of any program offered at the University of Cambridge.
The scholarship covers the following costs: University Composition Fee; a maintenance allowance (£14,600 at the 2016-17 rate); economy single airfare; inbound visa costs & associated NHS surcharge costs. Also covered are other discretionary components such as *Academic development funding (£500 to £1,500) to attend conferences; *Family allowance (up to £10,120 for a first child and up to £4,320 for a second child at 2016-17 rate); *Fieldwork; *Hardship funding (for unforeseen difficulties); *Maternity/Paternity funding; etc
To be eligible for the Gates Cambridge Scholarships, you must:
be a citizen of any country outside the United Kingdom
be applying to pursue a full-time residential MSc or MLitt or PhD or MPhil or LLM or MASt or Diploma or MBA.
- NOT be applying to pursue a bachelors degree or MBBChir Clinical Studies or MD Doctor of Medicine degree or part-time degrees.
Note that If you have already started a course at Cambridge University, you cannot apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship to fund the remainder of it.
How to Apply for the Gates Cambridge Scholarships
You must make an application to the University of Cambridge. It is not possible to apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship without first applying to the University of Cambridge. To be considered for postgraduate admission and a Gates Cambridge Scholarship all applicants must submit the following documents to the Graduate Admissions Office by the relevant deadline:-
- Graduate Application Form
- Academic transcripts
- 2 academic references
- 1 personal reference
- a research proposal of approximately 1,000 words (excluding references) if applying for a research based degree or PhD
- English language test scores (if required)
