The École Polytechnique Excellence Fellowships is offered by École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) for international students from all countries of the world that have applied or are applying to an EPFL Master’s Program for the 2017 academic year.
||Level: Postgraduate (Masters)|||Institution(s): EPFL|
||Location: Switzerland|||Field(s): Several|
||Target: All|||Deadline(s): 15 April, 2017|
EPFL offers a limited number of the École Polytechnique Excellence Fellowships and targets students with outstanding academic records. Some of the fellowships are financed by EPFL directly while others are financed through partnerships with foundations or companies.
Applications for starting a Master’s program at EPFL in September 2017 are now open. Interested and eligible candidates are invited to begin and submit their Master and scholarship applications before the stated deadline. The number of opening is not specified but a limited number of the scholarships will be awarded. Each award is for a 2-year or for 1 1/2 years of study depending on the Masters programme.
In terms of benefit, the scholarship includes CHF 16’000 per academic year for external applicants. This amount is split into monthly payments (CHF 32’000 for a 2-year Master’s or CHF 24’000 for a 1 and 1/2 year Master’s) and reservation of a room in student’s accommodation. Kindly note that accommodation, tuition fees, visa fees, etc. must be paid by the fellowship holder.
The following eligibility and selection criteria apply to the École Polytechnique Excellence Fellowships:
- Participation is open for candidates of any nationality
- Anyone who has applied or is applying to an EPFL Master’s program
- Anyone holding a Bachelor’s degree (or the equivalent) in a related field from a recognized university
The selection of candidates and the granting of the fellowships are done based solely on the evaluation of the academic records of the candidates. A first screening is done by sections. The attribution of the fellowships is then done by the Excellence Fellowships Committee, presided by Prof. Vandergheynst, Vice-Provost for Education.
To ensure that all fellowships are distributed in case of withdrawals, multiple candidates can be selected and placed on a waiting list. The fellowship is then offered to the main candidate who will be given a deadline (2-4 weeks) for confirming the acceptance of her/his admission and fellowship. In case of withdrawal or absence of response, the fellowship is offered to the first candidate on the waiting list who then gets a deadline (1-2 weeks) for confirming the acceptance of her/his admission and fellowship.
How to apply for the École Polytechnique Excellence Fellowships for Masters Study in Switzerland
Application for the École Polytechnique Excellence Fellowships can be done during application for a place in a master’s degree program. Applicants would have to tick a box indicating that their profile should also be considered for the fellowship programme.
If you couldn’t meet the January deadline you can apply before the April deadline. Regardless of which deadline you choose to meet, studies begin in mid-September following acceptance. However, candidates who need a visa are strongly advised to apply by the January deadline in order to have an answer earlier and have enough time for the visa procedures (which can take up to 3 months).
You can visit the scholarship announcement page for further information on this fellowship opportunity.
