The Monash University International Merit Scholarships is for outstanding international students who wish to pursue either an undergraduate or a postgraduate study degree program at Monash University, Australia. Application is welcomed from students from all countries of the world. Students are free to choose any full-time undergraduate or postgraduate coursework programs offered at the university including Medicine and Surgery.
Scholarship recipients may be asked to participate or be profiled in relevant Monash marketing, recruitment and promotional materials or events. A total of 31 scholarship offers are available every year. The award will apply throughout the duration of study. However, to retain the scholarship, candidates must maintain a distinction average (70% or above) each semester.
In terms of benefit, the scholarship has average value of up to $50,000 (based on a 5 year degree) — $10,000 for a full time study load (48 credit points). This is paid per year until the minimum number of points for a degree is completed. Commencing undergraduate students will be invited to apply for a place in Monash Minds.
To be eligible to apply for the Monash University International Merit Scholarship, candidates must fulfil the following conditions:
- Applicant must be an International student (Australian citizens are not eligible)
- Be commencing students with a full Monash course offer or continuing students that have completed a minimum of 2 semesters. Preference will be given to commencing students.
- Be undertaking a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate (coursework) degree at a Monash campus in Australia, or current students enrolled in the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (Honours) MBBS must have completed at least 3 semesters.
- Not be student studying Australian Year 12 (but may be eligible for the Monash International Scholarship for Excellence)
How to apply for the Monash University International Merit Scholarships
To apply for the Monash University International Merit Scholarship, ensure you have applied for and received a Monash course unconditional offer. Then, you must submit a separate application form for the scholarship by the stipulated deadline. Don’t submit supporting documentation with your application – this will not be considered. Students will also be assessed on their scholarship application statement (500 words), and their potential to be an ambassador for Monash University.
The deadline for scholarship applications are 15 January 2017, 15 March 2017, 15 April 2017 and 15 May 2017 for Semester 1 or 2 of the 2017-2018 academic year. Deadline for Semester 1 or 2 of the 2018-2019 academic year are 15 October 2017 and 15 November 2017.
There are 6 selection rounds and closing dates: Round one – October 15, for Semester 1 or 2 of the following year; Round two – November 15, for Semester 1 or 2 of the following year; Round three – January 15, for Semester 1 or 2 of the current year; Round four – March 15, for Semester 2 of the current year, Round five – April 15, for Semester 2 of the current year; and Round six – May 15, for Semester 2 of the current year.
